Manchester United made a surprise move for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard in the past few days but the Frenchman has opted to remain in Bavaria, reports in France claim. The versatile centre-back, who is also equally comfortable at full-back, has seemingly been targeted by Erik ten Hag to provide competition for Diogo Dalot as Aaron Wan-Bissaka edges closer to the exit door.
Earlier in the window, Chelsea had been looking at Pavard as a potential alternative to Jules Kounde following his £50million move to Barcelona
The 26-year-old was supposedly open to the move but in the past few weeks, Pavard has decided to remain at Bayern for at least another season.
According to L’Equipe, United launched an approach for the France international in the past few days but their offer was knocked back.
Bayern are not interested in a sale and the player does not want to change clubs now the 2022/23 season has commenced.

He said: “I received a written proposal from Manchester United – world top club. Yesterday, I informed those responsible at both clubs that I had decided stay at Eintracht Frankfurt.”
Ten Hag is still striving to improve the options within his squad in the final weeks of the transfer window.
United are set to make an improved offer for top forward target Antony after their initial £67m bid was rebuffed.
Antony is desperate to make the move happen and now there is growing feeling he could get his wish.
The Brazil international could link up with his International team-mates Casemiro and Fred at Old Trafford should he land his big move.
Ajax are said to be frustrated with the way Ten Hag has waited until the final stages of the window to make an offer for one of his former club’s best players.
