Man Utd ‘speed up negotiations’ for surprise midfield signing as agent flies in

Manchester United have reportedly ‘sped up’ negotiations with Fiorentina over a deal for Sofyan Amrabat. The Morocco World Cup star is highly likely to leave La Viola this summer although no club is yet to match the Italian club’s valuation of the player, suggesting the race remains well and truly wide open.

Amrabat was one of the standout figures in Qatar as he helped fire the Atlas Lions to a historic semi-final where they were eventually beaten 2-0 by France.

Nonetheless, his stock remains high having also impressed in Fiorentina’s Conference League final defeat to West Ham in Prague where his tough tackling and passing range caught the eye despite defeat.

Moroccan journalist Izem Anass suggests United are attempting to close a deal and that we could see movement on the 26-year-old’s future in the near future.

The reporter claims United are now looking to turn the screw, so much so that Amrabat’s agent is in Florence to escalate things with Fiorentina.

Fred was left behind for Man Utd’s pre-season tour of the United States while he resolve a personal issue, even though he is expected to join the squad shortly.

A host of other clubs have also been name-checked as potential suitors for Amrabat including United’s arch-rivals Liverpool.

The Reds are in the market for a defensive midfielder with Fabinho expected to join Saudi Arabian champions Al Ittihad in the coming days.

Jordan Henderson is now on his way to Al-Ettifaq after the clubs agreed an initial £12m fee.

The tenacious midfielder market is currently sparse and Amrabat is one of the most attractive names available in the shop window.

West Ham are also believed to have shown interest following the £105m sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal but Amrabat does not want the move.

Speaking in early June ahead of the Conference League final, Amrabat’s brother Nordin – formerly of Watford – made it clear the midfielder’s desire was to move to Spain.

He was asked by ESPN NL: “Would your brother [Sofyan Amrabat] be interested in playing for West Ham?”

To which Nordin responded: “No, my brother wants to go to the top, and his desire is to play in Spain.”

The interviewer then replied: “Is that realistic? What’s the top? Top four [clubs], top six?”

To which Amrabat clarified: “I don’t want to be arrogant, but a top 10 club in the world with a nice background would be realistic.

“After the World Cup, I know for sure that he is ready for it. At Barcelona, he is high on the list, but you know Barca’s financial situation.”
