Man Utd star Amad ‘close to Birmingham loan’ after crunch Ralf Rangnick talks

Manchester United are set to loan Amad to Championship side Birmingham after the Ivorian was told he is not part of Ralf Rangnick’s plans this season, reports claim. The Red Devils sealed a lucrative £37million swoop for the highly-rated Atalanta teenager on deadline day in October 2020 but Amad’s first-team opportunities at Old Trafford have remained limited.

The 19-year-old was on target for United last season in the Europa League against AC Milan and also featured against the likes of Real Sociedad and Wolves in the final weeks of the season.

Yet a troublesome thigh problem has halted Amad’s development this season despite playing 68 minutes against Young Boys in December.

Competition for places is fierce though in attack at United and Amad remains way down the pecking order.

Interim boss Rangnick has reportedly told the teenager that he is free to leave on loan for the second half of the campaign.

United have loaned out a number of their young academy players this season to the Championship to get some regular playing time.

Dishon Bernard, James Garner, Ethan Laird and Teden Mengi have all impressed away from the club this season and there is hope Amad could follow in their footsteps.

Amad was set to join Dutch side Feyenoord on loan last summer before injury scuppered his chances of making the move.

Instead, the Rotterdam-based outfit decided to sign Reiss Nelson on loan from Arsenal.

Manchester United could also be set to offload Anthony Martial this January.

The forward has told Rangnick that he wants to leave after his agent revealed the Frenchman is keen to embark on a new challenge.

Sevilla did make an offer to loan Martial until the end of the season but United weren’t fully convinced by the move.

Negotiations between the two clubs are now believed to have gone cold.
