Manchester United have suffered a major injury blow ahead of their FA Cup final with Manchester City with Antony stretchered off against Chelsea.
The Brazil winger attempted to jink past Trevoh Chalobah on the 25-minute mark in Thursday’s Premier League clash with the Blues defender appearing to make a clean challenge to win the ball.
Antony was left in agony however and after several minutes of treatment on the pitch, was stretchered off by United’s medical staff.
The former Ajax star appeared to be clutching his foot and was on the verge of tears as he was carried off.
Marcus Rashford, back in the squad after his recent injury and bout of illness, came onto replace him.
United, who had earlier taken the lead through Casemiro’s headed effort, take on Fulham in their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday before taking on City at Wembley on 3 June.
Antony’s fitness will now be a major concern with former United captain Gary Neville fearing the 23-year-old is now facing a spell on the sidelines.
‘It’s the reaction of a player that’s going to spend some time out of the game,’ Neville said while on commentary duty for Sky Sports
‘His hand was slamming the ground. I’d be amazed if he does carry on, but he has just stood up.
‘He [Erik ten Hag] will now be thinking he’ll have to rethink this game but he’s also got Sunday against Fulham at home to fill in that right-hand side, because Antony would be a shoe-in for that cup final side.’
Antony has made 43 appearances in his first season in the Premier League, scoring eight goals in all competitions and providing three assists.
