United completed their £55m move to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea this week and Erik ten Hag is now keen for the club to recruit a new striker and a goalkeeper before the start of the new season.
An improved offer of €50m (£42.7m) has been submitted to Inter for their goalkeeper Andre Onana, and United are hopeful that they are nearing an agreement with the Serie A club.
United’s search for a new striker has already been adjusted after a deal for Harry Kane, Ten Hag’s first-choice target, was considered too expensive with Tottenham demanding a £100m fee for the 29-year-old.
According to The Telegraph, United were weighing up moves for Hojlund and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani at the start of the transfer window but Ten Hag has made the Denmar international his preferred target.
The report claims that United will now submit a formal offer to Atalanta and believe a £50m proposal will be enough to bring Hojlund to Old Trafford.
Atalanta signed Hojlund in a €17m (£14.3m) deal from Sturm Graz last August and the 20-year-old delivered an impressive first season in Italy with 10 goals in 34 appearances.
Hojlund was handed his first senior cap for Denmark last September and has scored six goals in six games for the national side.
Earlier this month, reports in Italy had claimed that United have had a €35million (£31m) offer for Hojlund rejected by Atalanta.
The Danish striker also represents a cheaper alternative to Kolo Muani as Frankfurt are demanding a €100m (£86m) fee for the 24-year-old, who scored 15 goals in his first season in the Bundesliga last term.
