The 20-year-old came off the bench at half-time in Oslo, Norway and scored the first goal of the game in the 67th minute.

A number of recognisable first team players started the game, including Jadon Sancho, Mason Mount, Rafael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, but it was another academy talent in Joe Hugill who scored the Red Devils’ second and final goal.

French forward Emeran arrived from Amiens in 2019 and has yet to be given a first team opportunity at Manchester United, but hopes that his performance in Oslo caught the eye of Erik ten Hag and will bring more opportunities and goals.

‘It’s always a proud moment for me to wear the shirt and play for this club in a big stadium like this,’ Emeran told MUTV. ‘Of course I’m happy and proud that I scored a goal, for my family as well. I just have to keep going, the first of many.

‘It was important for the team and for the coach as it was our first game of the year so we wanted to play good, respect the tactics and the rules of the coach.

‘Yeah, of course, it was a good goal for him [Hugill]. I’m happy for him to score. We represent the academy so it’s nice.’

The game was played at the Ullevaal Stadion, home of the Norway national team and the youngster was pleased to get to play in the 28,000-capacity ground, hoping for more chances as the summer goes on.

‘It’s very nice, we are here to take experience so it’s nice to play in a full stadium, to play in front of fans. It’s a good feeling to play in a stadium like this,’ he said.

‘I don’t have a personal target, I just want to play as many minutes as I can.’
