Erik ten Hag appointed next Manchester United manager
Manchester United are set to have a new look squad next season under Erik ten Hag with a major clearout expected this summer.
The Red Devils officially announced that the Dutchman will be their new manager at the end of the season as he leaves Ajax signing a three-year deal, with an option of a fourth, at Old Trafford. Ten Hag insists he is “honoured” to be named United’s new boss, saying: “It is a great honour to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead.
“I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve. It will be difficult to leave Ajax after these incredible years, and I can assure our fans of my complete commitment and focus on bringing this season to a successful conclusion before I move to Manchester United.”
And what a mammoth challenge faces the new manager as Ten Hag takes over a disjointed club on and off the field.
There will be several players heading out the exit door in the upcoming transfer window as Mirror Football can exclusively reveal there will be a major exodus at United with up to as many as 12 players leaving Old Trafford.
Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Lee Grant are all set to leave as free agents while at least six other players including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Alex Telles, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford – could join them to allow Ten Hag to begin his overhaul with Ralf Rangnick suggesting there will be as many as ten new arrivals..
Ten Hag will have a £200million budget to operate with this summer with Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Darwin Nunez, Ruben Neves, Jurrien Timber and Antony among his targets. Here’s how United could line-up next season under the 52-year-old.

Kane and Rice would swallow all of United’s transfer budget so it remains unlikely that both will be in a red shirt when the window closes. But even a deal for one of the England stars doesn’t represent brilliant value as Tottenham and West Ham are not willing to sell either of their prized assets on the cheap.
United have made the mistake in the past of signing big names for big amounts of money and it’s unlikely a path they’ll go down under Ten Hag, who is renowned for finding diamonds in the rough and developing youngsters.
Benfica striker Nunez and Wolves midfielder Neves never are cheaper alternatives, however, and would be realistic signings for United addressing two well-documented problem areas. Ten Hag is also reportedly keen on bringing Ajax defender Jurrien Timber and winger Antony with him to Old Trafford, who would fit in well with the manager’s plans.
Possible Man Utd XI under Ten Hag : David de Gea, Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Jurrien Timber, Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay, Ruben Neves, Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Darwin Nunez.
