Manchester Airport hit by ‘baggage issue’ as passengers land without luggage

Travellers flying from Manchester Airport are finding upon arrival at their destinations their luggage is missing. The problem is specifically affecting Terminal 2, where the airport said there is a malfunction with the baggage handling system responsible for processing checked-in bags.

Passengers have taken to social media to express their frustration. Lydia, tweeted to Manchester Airport and TUI UK, seeking information about the whereabouts of the missing bags from a flight to Antalya, Turkey.

She said: “@manairport can you advise as to where all the bags that are missing off flight TOM574 to Antalya will arrive? My daughters clothes are all missing. @TUIUK please assist also.”

Another passenger named Vikki also vented her anger, suggesting both TUI and the ground staff were aware more than 40 bags were left behind in Manchester on their flight.

She said: “Should have gone with gut feel and packed into hand luggage.. #TUI & ground staff must have known 40+ bags left in Manchester on our flight alone. Avoid #manairport.”

Airport officials have apologised for the inconvenience and assured passengers they are urgently looking into the problem.

Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport as scheduled, despite the ongoing issue.

A Manchester Airport spokesperson said: “We’re aware of an issue affecting the baggage handling system that handles bags being checked-in in Terminal 2 and are working quickly to fix it. We apologise for any inconvenience.

“Our resilience team has been deployed to minimise the impact on passengers and as a result operations around check-in and security are running normally. Our advice to passengers planning to travel today is to arrive at the airport as normal in line with their airline’s instructions.”
