The signing of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund during the last summer transfer window has made them a stronger force to reckon with. The burly Danish, whose goal tally for the season touched 30, is also in hot form with two goals in the weekend’s 4-1 win over Southampton. This was also their eighth win on the go as the EPL side has now scored 31 goals during the run.
Haaland has scored 10 goals in the Champions League season so far, including five goals against RB Leipzig, and would be aiming to settle a score with Bayern Munich. The striker notably never won a game against Bayern during his time with Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern Munich, on the other hand, have a new boss in Thomas Tuchel, under whom the side defeated domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund in their first game but was followed by a shock exit in the German Cup quarterfinals to SC Freiburg. Tuchel’s main task has been to make the Munich defence tight as they were notorious for leaking goals under predecessor Julian Nagelsmann.
Tuchel always has been a tricky rival to Pep Guardiola in the past as the duo share rivalry since the latter’s Bayern Munich days. Also, they famously squared off in the 2021 Champions League final with Tuchel in charge of Chelsea. The German embarrassed his Spanish rival by breaking the code of City’s passing game.
As far as injury update is concerned, City have just one player missing out midfielder Phil Foden, who had his appendix removed. Bayern, on the other hand, will be without a proper number 9 as Maxim Choupo-Moting is down with a knee injury.
