The Red Devils are leading the race to sign Mount, who is out of contract in 2024.
The Chelsea playmaker has rejected the club’s last two offers to extend his deal, and negotiations have since stopped.
United are set to submit a £55m bid for Mount, with Chelsea reluctantly holding out for around £70m to let the midfielder go.
But signing a top centre forward is Erik ten Hag’s priority and he’s expected to spend practically his entire budget on doing so.
That means any deals outside of that will have to be funded through player sales and the Athletic claim two deals could fund Mount’s arrival.
Dean Henderson is a target for Nottingham Forest following the club’s survival in the Premier League.
The England ace has no intention of returning to Old Trafford unless he’s made first choice.
Forest are willing to pay around £30m for Henderson, which could cover half of the fee for Mount.
Another player that could leave is McTominay.
Newcastle are interested in the Scot and while he’s happy at the Theatre of Dreams, the Magpies could offer him regular first team football.
