Manipur: Combined security forces bust illegal arms manufacturing factory

In a joint search operation,a combined team of Manipur police and Border Security Force (BSF) stationed in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Thursday busted a local arms manufacturing unit and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions from New Lamka area of Churachandpur district headquarters.

The search operation was conducted by Officer in Charge of Churachandpur police station and Assistant Commandant of 113 battalion BSF under the supervision of SP Shivanand Surve and additional SP Th Dishorjit based on ‘a reliable information’ at the house of Pauminlun Suantak at Shiamtund village at Lamka area around 11.50am on Thursday, police said.

“During the search one local gun manufacturing factory in the house recovered the following gun and gun parts with factory tools,” a source familiar with the development said.

The recovered items include one Local made single barrel gun, one wooden gun butt, one local made single barrel (small), one local made firing pin unit (small), one local made firing pin unit (bigger), one local made single barrel (long) part, one curve barrel part, one local made trigger assembly, one local made transactory (part), three trigger guard, two old type trigger unit (musketary), one local made hammer unit, one trigger unit, one local made cocking pin/bridge block part, one Local made magazine, one solid iron magazine block, one ceiling carry (single), one welding machine (ideal), one cutter machine, one drill, one air blower (Azad factory), one five speed bench drill, one thick iron, two bench vice and one carpenter vice.

The search was also conducted in the village. However, the main culprit Pauminlun Suantak could not be found at his home,the police said. Hence a case under FIR Number 136(08)2022 Churachandpur Police Station under section 25-(1 AA)Arms Act 1959 has been registered against the accused person for investigation.

Meanwhile, sharing some photographs of the search operation and recovery in a tweet on Thursday evening, state chief minister N Biren Singh wrote, “Weapons manufacturing unit busted. In a combined operation by district police and para military forces, a local gun manufacturing unit was discovered at New Lamka, Churachandpur. During the operation various items which were used in making country made guns have been recovered.”
