Earlier, there were reports stating that the ace fashion designer Manish Malhotra will make a biopic on legendary yesteryear actress Meena Kumari. Reportedly, actor Kriti Sanon was said to be in the race for bagging the titular role. Though there was no confirmation on the same, netizens were excited to see this biopic. However, now, the Meena Kumari biopic is indeed happening, just confirmed by the designer himself.
Manish Malhotra CONFIRMS Meena Kumari biopic
In a recent interview with Film Companion, Manish said, “I don’t know how it got out but it is happening. We are still working on the script. The script is key, always. I have been reading her books. The film is based on her books. I have always been fascinated by Meena Kumari.” But did you know who inspired him to do so? Well, it was none other than yesteryear actor Rekha.
Manish said, “Rekha told me once that you know when you turn 40, you will understand the genius of Meena Kumari. And that is true. But I was young and I was busy working but when I turned 40 I not only understood the genius of Meena Kumari but even Nargis ji and Dilip Kumar and Guru Dutt. I started watching that cinema and understanding it so much better. I think Meena Kumari is phenomenal with her expressions, the way she uses her eyes and her adaa.“
Meena Kumari biopic will mark Manish’s directorial debut. Though the lead actress has not been finalised yet, Kriti Sanon is said to play the legendary actress. Meena Kumari was known as the queen of tragedy during her journey.
