Manual vehicles dying off as drivers choose ‘affordable’ automatic cars

0

Nowadays, an automatic vehicle is the first choice of car for 38 percent of people, with six percent of these going for an EV.

This is a sharp shift from previous generations where just eight percent opted for an automatic in the 2000s and three percent in the nineties.

Mr Sheehan continued, saying: “What’s more, the upcoming ban on new petrol and diesel engines from 2030 will see fewer cars with clutches on our roads, as fully electric vehicles don’t have them.

“It’s realistic to say that in a few decades’ time, the art of clutch control could almost die out entirely.”
