Marcel Sabitzer could not hide his delight after scoring his first goal for Manchester United in Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final victory over Fulham.

The Red Devils went 1-0 down but after Fulham had two players and their manager sent off, Erik ten Hag’s side came back to win 3-1 at Old Trafford.

Sabitzer, who joined United in the January transfer window on loan from Bayern Munich, scored the goal which put United 2-1 up to turn the tie on its head.

Speaking to ITV after the match, the 29-year-old Austria international was quizzed about his first goal since arriving at the club and said: ‘Massive. I’m so happy!

‘An important one. I’m very, very happy now. Massive win. We wanted to go back to Wembley, we did it.

‘[At] 1-0 down it was hard and tough but we came back and won it.’

Asked about the penalty incident which Fulham star Willian sent off for handball, Sabitzer added: ‘Haven’t seen it.

‘The referee said it so we go with it. I’m focused on the game. It was easier for us. We had to be focused on the game and the result.’

After Willian was shown the red card, Aleksandar Mitrovic was then sent off for dissent before manager Silva was also dismissed in a frantic 60-second spell.

Sabitzer played down suggestions that Fulham lost the game due to those series of incidents and instead put the focus on United’s performance.

‘We won it,’ he said. ‘We scored three, they scored one. We were concentrated, focused until the end.

‘I think it was a deserved win. We came back and that’s the important thing.’

United will now face Brighton in the semi-finals as they look to win their second trophy of the season, having lifted the Carabao Cup last month.
