Girondins de Bordeaux’s Marcelo was dropped by Olympique Lyonnais earlier this season due to “continuous farting and laughing” in the locker room.
ESPN reports that the Brazilian defender, who played in just two Ligue 1 matches for Lyon this season, was demoted to their reserve team in August after laughing during a speech that captain Leo Dubois made following a 3-0 loss to Angers SCO.
“The inappropriate behavior of Marcelo in the locker room after the match in Angers justifies this decision, which was taken unanimously by Olympique Lyonnais’ management team,” read the official club statement.
However, ESPN sources have now shared that Marcelo, who signed a new contract with Lyon just a few months before the start of the season, was also terminated for another, entirely different reason.
“Marcelo was also disciplined by the club for repeatedly farting among his teammates in the dressing room and laughing in the presence of [sporting director Juninho Pernambucano] and [manager Peter Bosz],” ESPN FC correspondent Julien Laurens wrote.
Lyon subsequently cut ties with Marcelo in January and he signed with Bordeaux, which has lost eight of the 10 games Marcelo has played in. The French club is currently at the bottom of Ligue 1 and at risk of being relegated to Ligue 2 with just two games remaining in the season.
