Former tennis star Mardy Fish was battling Steph Curry on the golf course for the title at the American Century Championship this past week but ran into some trouble on the 18th hole.
Appearing on The Ringer Podcast, Fish revealed that a heckler shouted an obscenity at him before he made his swing. Curry apparently took exception to that.
“Steph’s like ‘Woah, dude, like, what are you doing?’ Kind of thing. My buddy was caddying for me… was pretty pissed…” Fish said.
Fish explained that the heckling bothered Curry in particular because it seemed that Curry didn’t want to win as a result of someone heckling an opponent. He said that the two of them along with Steph’s father Dell found some camaraderie in being against the heckler in that moment.

Mardy Fish said that he doesn’t know what wound up happening to the heckler, only that the heckler had wagered on Steph Curry to win. He then mused that he’s surprised heckling isn’t a bigger part of golf given how much betting goes on in the sport.
Ultimately, Curry won the event, so the heckler probably feels vindicated in their actions.
Hopefully Fish’s concerns about golf heckling in the future don’t come to pass.
