MANILA, Philippines—Former champion Mark Magsayo barely made weight on Saturday ahead of his WBC interim featherweight title fight against Brandon Figueroa.
Magsayo had to make a second attempt just to make the 126-pound limit while Figueroa tipped the scale at 125 and 3/4 pounds during the official weigh-in at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Ontario Airport in California.
The 27-year-old Magsayo came in 3/4 pounds overweight on his first try and needed to shed off the excess weight within the two-hour period allowed by the California State Athletic Commission.
Magsayo came through and officially weighed 126 pounds in the do-over.

Magsayo and Figueroa headline a Showtime Championship Boxing tripleheader which takes place at Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, USA.
A win by Magsayo (24-1, 16KOs) would earn him a shot to regain the WBC world title against Rey Vargas, who beat him by split decision last July at Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Figueroa (23-1-1, 18KOs), meanwhile, is coming off a sixth-round stoppage of Carlos Castro also last July.
The 26-year-old Figueroa, a 3-1 favorite to beat Magsayo, is fighting just the second time at featherweight. He is the former WBC super bantamweight champion.
