Food recalls are issued when a product is unsafe for customers to use or it could cause harm to someone with allergies. Now, Marks and Spencer is recalling a product from its bakery because of an undeclared ingredient.

The supermarket is the latest company to recall a food product that could cause harm to some people if eaten.

Made Without Wheat Gluten Free White Sourdough Cob is being recalled because of undeclared wheat, or gluten.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, according to the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

The best before dates affected are December 19, December 20, December 21, and December 22.

All December dates are for 2021.

Stating the food recall on its website, the FSA said: “This product contains wheat (gluten) making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten.”

The organisation continued: “Marks and Spencer is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the products.”

DON’T MISS:

In its notice, Marks and Spencer warned customers against eating the product if they have already bought it.

The supermarket advised: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, do not eat it.

“Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

“For more information please contact Marks and Spencer customer care line on 03330 148 555.”

It added: “Customer safety is of paramount importance to Marks and Spencer and we take all issues regarding the production of our foods extremely seriously.

“Marks and Spencer is recalling its Made Without Wheat Gluten Free white Sourdough Cob due to the possibility of this product containing a small amount of wheat flour (gluten).

“Any customers in possession of this product who have a wheat or gluten allergy or intolerance, or who wish to exchange the product, can return it to their nearest store where a full refund will be given.

“No other M&S products are affected.

“We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

Marks and Spencer is not the only supermarket to have recalled food products in recent days and weeks.

Tesco has issued a recall for mince pie flavour Walkers crisps.

The supermarket is withdrawing the product from shelves because the packs contain milk which is not mentioned on the label.

This makes the crisps a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

All date codes are affected.
