The Valladolid swimmer will swim the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly
Swimmers from the Castilla y León Adapted Sports Federation (Fedeacyl) Marta Fernandez and Luis Huerta will participate in the event of the Paralympic Swimming World Series in Berlin.
The German event, which takes place from this Thursday, May 11 and until Sunday, May 14has established itself as the most important test at the international level of the Paralympic circuit, and will have a record of participation with 420 swimmers of 51 different nationalitiesalmost with world championship status.
Precisely, the appointment of the Berlin swimming pool (Schwimm- und Sprunghalle in the Europasportpark SSE), will be propitious for the participants to achieve or strengthen their qualification for the World Cup in Manchester next summer.
Marta Fernández, from Burgos, who participates with the national team of the Spanish Sports Federation for People with Cerebral Palsy and Acquired Brain Injury (FEDPC) team together with the coach from Valladolid Víctor Olivar, will be one of the most important swimmers in the German event -with the permission of the talent local Taliso Engel-. The international swimmer can break the world records of the three disciplines in which she will jump into the pool: 50 butterfly, 50 breaststroke and 150 styles.
In fact, Fernández Infante lands in the World Series after beating the record of the 50 butterfly (S3) in the Open International of Castilla y León of Adapted Swimming (44:79).
Along with the Burgos, there will be the Valladolid Luis Huerta, who participates in Berlin with the selection of the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities (Feddf).
The young athlete from Valladolid will swim the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles; as well as the 100 butterfly. Huerta Poza will seek to be in the finals and then “dream” about a medal, with chances in 200, after touching bronze at the Madeira World Cup in 2022.
The CTD Río Esgueva swimmer will be accompanied in the selection by the coach from Valladolid Javier Alonso.
The largest teams
Spain arrives with the largest team, 45 swimmers with world champions Toni Ponce and Sarai Gascón, both present at the Castilla y León Open.
Great Britain will also be heavily represented in Berlin this year with 40 athletes including Paralympic champions Jordan Catchpole and Maisie Summers-Newton.
