Marta Fernández has made her debut in the S3 category with the best debut: a world record. The Burgos swimmer has achieved the world record in the 50 butterfly, with a time of 46.57 seconds. She already had the best time in S4 (40:22), but last month, after being requalified at international level, she has changed category due to physical problems caused by spastic tetraparesis.
On this occasion, Marta Fernández improved the world time of her predecessor, the Mexican Patricia Valle, by almost ten seconds, who in 2013 left the world record in 56 seconds.
“I am very happy with the results of the championship, it was the first after the change of category and it has been a great start with the world record in the 50 butterfly. Now, it’s time to continue training and working for the World Cup”, celebrates the Fedeacyl swimmer after breaking the record and, in addition, the Spanish records of 50 freestyle S3 (46:40) and 100 freestyle (1:36:30), both in the hands of Arantxa González since 1997 (1:01:67 and 2:08:81, respectively).
This summer, from July 31 to August 6, it will fly to Manchester to conquer the globe for the umpteenth time, to continue extending the successes achieved in Portugal.
