The 24-year-old had endured something of a nomadic career until arriving in north London, initially on loan from Real Madrid two years ago.
Having been identified as a potential world superstar as a teenager, Odegaard has finally begun to add consistency to his game under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta.
Odegaard’s increasing influence at Arsenal saw him inherit the club captaincy at the start of last season and he rewarded Arteta’s faith with his best every campaign which yielded 15 goals.
Arsenal are keen to tie their skipper to a new long-term contract and with PSG eyeing up the gifted playmaker, the Gunners are keen to enter into negotiations as soon as possible.
Speaking ahead of Norway’s upcoming games against Scotland and Cyprus, Odegaard is in a more relaxed frame of mind although he insists he sees his long-term future at Arsenal.
He told TV2: ‘I have a few years left on the contract, I’m fine and I hope to be at the club for a long time to come.’
On the prospect of signing a new deal with Arsenal this summer, he added: ‘I have not spoken to them, that is not my task. To be honest, I don’t know how the situation is right now.
‘Well, it’s not me who controls it. Now I’m focusing on the national team, so I may take it after the summer if they want to do something.’
Despite boasting the talents of Odegaard and Manchester city machine Erling Haaland, Norway missed out on qualifying for last year’s World Cup and the captain insists there can be no repeat ahead of next summer’s European Championships.
He added: ‘I have a lot of faith in this team. So I hope we can use the two important matches now to also get the Norwegian team to believe in us, so that it is not just us who believe in ourselves.’
