He told Empire: “[Eternals happens] right around the same time as Spider-Man: Far From Home, with the world recovering from the attack of Thanos and the return of half the world population.

“So it’s a big cosmic crazy movie set on earth over 7,000 years. [Avengers: Endgame events] don’t directly affect [Eternals], although the Eternals are quite aware of what happened in the Endgame and what happened with Thanos, and you sort of get to hear their opinion about what happened and why maybe they didn’t get involved. So it is both in a post-Endgame world, but isn’t a direct line, as far as storytelling.”

Who does Harry Styles play in Eternals?

Harry appears at the very very end of the film, in the mid-credits scene which features in every Marvel instalment. He plays Eros, the brother of super-villain Thanos. While he only features in a short snippet, most believe he will feature in many more Marvel movies in a major way. Eek.

Why is Eternals a groundbreaking Marvel movie?

While Eternals has made headlines thanks to its introduction of Mr Styles to the MCU, it has actually made history in a number of inspiring ways.

As mentioned before, the film features Marvel’s first openly-gay superhero in Phastos, who is happily married to husband Ben and has a son, Jack. Eternals also features the franchise’s first same-sex kiss between characters.

In another first, Eternals character Makkari, played by Lauren Ridloff, is the universe’s first deaf superhero. And as the charismatic Kingo, Kumali Nanjiani is the first South Asian superhero to star in the series. 

The movie also features Marvel’s first-ever *actual* sex scene, between Gemma Chan’s Sersi and Richard Madden’s Ikaris. As if there wasn’t already enough reason to tune in…
