Marvel is bringing the world of What If..? to adult novels in 2024, and tying them into some of the post popular MCU characters such as Loki, Scarlet Witch and Spider-Man. Marvel Comics have been telling stories set in alternative timelines and realities for decades, and that has been adapted into the MCU via the animated What If…? TV series and as part of the multiverse saga. Now fans of the franchise will be able to get into a more in depth story via the series of novels announced recently by Random House.
The new trilogy of novels will kick off with WHAT IF…LOKI WAS WORTHY? A LOKI AND VALKYRIE STORY by Madeleine Roux on March 12, 2024. According to the publisher, Random House, the synopsis of the novel reads:
“While Loki struggles to fulfill his brother’s last request, the far-reaching consequences of his fatal prank return to haunt him,” the synopsis continues. “Blinded by grief from those he lost in the chaos wrought by Asgard, Iron Man vows revenge on those who consider themselves gods. Determined to protect the Earth from the might of this unpredictable alien power, he forges Asgard’s own weaponry into a lethal suit of armor, set on eradicating any tether between their worlds. Consequences be damned. When Asgard looks to Loki for salvation, he must answer the question: Am I truly worthy?”
The other books announced for 2024 are WHAT IF…WANDA MAXIMOFF AND PETER PARKER WERE SIBLINGS? A SCARLET WITCH AND SPIDER-MAN STORY by Seanan McGuire, released in July 2024, and WHAT IF…MARC SPECTOR WAS A HOST TO VENOM? A MOON KNIGHT AND VENOM STORY by Mike Chen, released in October 2024.

Loki Will Return To The MCU This Fall
Tom Hiddleston will bring Loki back to screens later this year in the second season of his multiverse spanning series on Disney+. As one of the most popular characters of the franchise, Loki scored one of the biggest audiences for any Disney+ offering from Marvel Studios. The second season is set to delve even deeper into the multiverse and features the return of Owen Wilson as Mobius and Jonathan Majors as Kang.
There are currently many things unknown about Loki season 2, and fans are still awaiting a first trailer, which is now expected to drop near the end of Secret Invasion’s run on Disney+. While it is known that Hiddleston’s villain-turned-hero will be skipping through time once again, where his story will end this time is yet to be revealed. Many Marvel fans are still hoping that this will lead him back to be a part of the next Avengers movies, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, and set up a reunion with his brother Thor. It has been previously rumored that both Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth could be using the finale of the multiverse storyline to make their permanent departure from the franchise, and if that turns out to be the case, then it will probably be just as fitting an end as that of Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans in Avengers: Endgame.
