Cate Blanchett played Thor’s older sister Hela in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. The character appeared to be killed off in the film, but a new report suggests that the goddess of death could make her return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At least in an animated form, anyway.
Laughing Place (via /Film) reports that What If…? director Bryan Andrews was present at this year’s LightBox Expo and made some exciting announcements about the show. During the panel, Bryan is reported to have been astonished at recording Blanchett as Hela for an episode dedicated to her in Season 2 of the series. He also promised that this iteration of Hela would be something that fans have never seen before.
The Season Two of What If…? is set to arrive in early 2023 on Disney Plus. Marvel made the announcement during its animation panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. A behind-closed-doors preview, which IGN was present for, showed characters from the MCU such as Captain Carter, Steve Rogers as Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor Ragnarok’s Hela, Young Star-Lord and Ego, The Scarlet Witch, and Mandarin among others. The preview also showed Thanos and Captain America fighting each other. A third season is also confirmed to release in the future.
What If…? reimagines stories from the MCU multiverse. IGN gave the first season a 6/10 in its review, writing that it “features a few standout remixes of MCU canon, but inconsistency across the board leaves it with plenty to improve on for next season.”
The Season Two of What If…? will have a packed cast of characters with 25 heroes and villains. Chadwick Boseman also received a posthumous Creative Arts Emmy for his voice acting as T’Challa in the show.
