M*A*S*H star dies aged 79 as co-star pays tribute to ‘sassy Rosie’

M*A*S*H actress Eileen Saki has died aged 79, her co-star has confirmed.

She is best known for her role as Rosie in the hit television series which aired on CBS from September 17, 1972 to February 28, 1983.

The tragic news was announced on Tuesday on the MASH Matters Podcast page.

Her former co-star Jeff Maxwell wrote: “Our sweet Eileen. Our sassy Rosie.

“On behalf of her husband Bob, we extend sincere appreciation for the hundreds of M*A*S*H fans who filled Eileen’s final days with peace, encouragement, and love.”

He added: “She read every email and responded to as many as she could. Our sweet, sweet Eileen. How we love you. How we will miss you.”

Family sources confirmed Eileen passed away in Los Angeles on Monday (May 1) after a battle with cancer, per TMZ.

M*A*S*H, an acronym for Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, was an American war comedy-drama television series.

Her character was the proprietor of Rosie’s Bar, which was the local bar for any G.I. to relax after a long day.

Aside from her role in M*A*S*H, Eileen starred in Policewomen back in 1974, Meteor in 1979, Splash in 1984, and History of the World, Part I in 1981.

Fans were quick to pay tribute to the beloved actress

“Sayonara Rosie! I’ll be having a drink in your honour tonight,” wrote one fan on Facebook.

While another added: “May she rest in peace and may the memories of her always be a blessing to her family, friends and fans!”

“Rest in peace and God Bless, Eileen Saki. Your work on MASH brought a lot of smiles! Praying for her family and all those mourning her passing,” penned a third.
