Mason Mount to Man Utd transfer has been five years in the making after £55m bid

Ten Hag saw Mount’s quality first-hand as Vitesse did the double over his Ajax side, and he has likely monitored his development since.

He failed to lure Mount to Ajax in the summer of 2018. Instead, Chelsea sent him to work with club legend Frank Lampard at Derby County in the Championship.

But Ten Hag looks likely to get his man this summer, with the Blues expected to allow their Champions League-winning academy graduate to complete a move away.

The Dutchman may see him as a replacement for Fred, who has been placed on the market at an asking price of £20m.
