Mason Mount’s reps send Chelsea board message after second rejected Man Utd bid

Mason Mount’s representatives have reportedly reaffirmed to Chelsea that they will not be signing a contract extension this summer after Manchester United saw their second bid rejected by the Blues. The Red Devils are striving to make the 24-year-old their first summer signing for Erik ten Hag but Chelsea’s steep valuation is now proving to be problematic for the Old Trafford hierarchy in their quest to recruit the England international attacking midfielder.

Mount appeared to bid an emotional farewell to his boyhood club on the final day of the Premier League season when he was pictured walking around the Stamford Bridge turf following the 1-1 draw with Newcastle – taking in his surroundings for one last time ahead of his expected departure.

Although there had initially been an appetite from all parties to get his new contract finalised, Chelsea were unable to fulfil his wage demands and find a compromise.

The relationship between Mount’s reps and the club then became fractured before Mount appointed a new agent in Wasserman’s Neil Fewings in March to resolve his future.

Fewings has seemingly been tasked with finalising a transfer to Manchester United but Chelsea are holding firm on their £65million asking price as they look to secure the best possible deal for one of their academy’s greatest success stories.

Now Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Mount’s camp have once again told Chelsea they won’t be signing a contract extension after United saw their latest £50m proposal rejected by the Blues.

The move is thought to be an attempt to put extra pressure on Chelsea to agree the deal before United walk away from the table – a proposition they have already threatened.

The Red Devils have made it abundantly clear they won’t be overpaying for the Chelsea playmaker, who has just one year remaining on his current deal in west London.

Newly-appointed Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has already made a last-ditch attempt to keep hold of Mount but the player is set on leaving.

If he was to stay put it’s thought he would run down the final year of his contract before departing on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.

United boss Ten Hag is understood to have been an admirer of Mount since his days on loan at Vitesse in the Eredivisie.

United are still hopeful of striking an agreement even though it had been speculated that their second offer was a ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ proposal.

Discussions are continuing, however, and Chelsea are thought to have told United that a £65m bid would be enough to finalise the deal.

The Blues have also now struck an agreement with Arsenal over the sale of Kai Havertz which is understood to be worth £67.5m including add-ons.

Chelsea have been busy resolving a number of exits ahead of June 30 when they will have to submit their 2022/23 financial records.

Kalidou Koulibaly, Hakim Ziyech and Edouard Mendy are all headed for Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Mateo Kovacic is heading to Manchester City in a £25m deal and personal terms have already been agreed with the Croatian international.
