Child star Jimmy Karz, who shot to fame playing Bruce Bogtrotter in the much-loved 1996 movie Matilda looks unrecognisable after turning his back on fame to become a doctor.

In an image shared on social media, his curly hair and chubby cheeks have been replace by a chiselled jawline and close-cropped haircut.

He also sports a well-groomed beard these days rather than the chocolate cake which adorned his face in one of the most memorable scenes in the movie.

The now 38-year-old’s character was forced to eat a giant chocolate cake in front of the entire school in an iconic moment.

The movie marked his acting debut, and the youngster spent days working on the scene, which took an astonishing three weeks to film.

He described the experience in an interview with medical publication The Do in 2015.

“That scene took about three weeks to film, from what I recall,” he said.

“I had to be on set all day, and I had to wear the same outfit every day. The chocolate was already encrusted on this shirt I was wearing.

“For continuity’s sake, every day I had to have the chocolate painted on my face the way it was painted on the day before.

“I despised the smell of chocolate for a few weeks after that,” he admitted. “I realised then that acting is not easy. There’s a lot of skill and professionalism involved.”

Despite the draining experience in his first role, he did go on to have other high profile parts.

Ironically, given his choice of profession nowadays, he appeared in an episode in the fifth season of ER in 1998 playing a character called Alfred Clark opposite the likes of George Clooney and Noah Wyle.

That same year, he had a role in the Adam Sandler film The Wedding Singer, as the ‘Studliest kid’ at a Bar Mitzvah.

His part in the classic movie, which has since been turned into a stage musical, saw him squeezing Drew Barrymore’s bum while they danced together.

However, he turned his back on showbusiness and in 2017 graduated as a doctor at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
