Matteo Guendouzi has told Arsenal that he is targeting a long-term stay at Marseille.

After being frozen out of the first team by Mikel Arteta, Guendouzi left Arsenal to join Hertha Berlin on loan last year before he was allowed to return to France on a temporary deal in the summer.

The 22-year-old has quickly established himself as a regular at Marseille and is now on the verge of securing his first senior France cap.

When asked about his future during a press conference with the French national team on Thursday, Guendouzi made it clear that he sees his long-term future away from Arsenal.

‘I’m on loan and still linked to Arsenal but I am focused on what I have to do with Marseille,’ said Guendouzi.

‘I want to be part of the long term with Marseille. I’m very comfortable there, I want to continue to enjoy myself at Marseille.’

Guendouzi also believes his chances of securing a place in France’s national side have been helped following his return to Ligue 1.

‘Yes, because Marseille are the biggest French club, they are a very popular club abroad,’ said the midfielder.

‘I was already followed when I was at Arsenal, but I have felt my notoriety climb since I have been at Marseille.

‘I am greatly proud to be there, I am in one of the best squads in the world, I learn and I progress.

‘I hope to be here for the long term, to make as many squads as possible, to win trophies with the team. The most important thing is to be here long term.’
