The Dallas Mavericks made a big swing with their trade for Kyrie Irving at last season’s NBA trade deadline. The move ended up backfiring, as the Mavericks fell out of the playoffs after being as high as fourth in the West.
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has said that he is interested in bringing Irving back, but last season’s result clearly indicates that more needs to be done to the roster.
Dallas is reportedly bringing in a veteran with recent championship experience for a meeting, and they could sign one of the breakout stars of the Denver Nuggets’ title run as a result.
Sources: Bruce Brown intends to meet with the Mavs soon after the opening of free agency. Brown is expected to have several suitors and has not ruled out a return to Denver despite the financial constraints. His market is $12.4M midlevel but Nuggets are limited to $7.8M.

According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, Bruce Brown intends to meet with the Mavericks after free agency opens. Brown is expected to be a hot commodity on the free agent market, especially after his play in the NBA Playoffs this year.
Brown hasn’t ruled out a return to Denver, but making the money work would be difficult. The Nuggets only have around $8 million in cap space, and Brown could absolutely command a higher price from another team on the open market.
Brown would bring a defensive presence to Dallas that the Mavericks sorely needed last year. A big reason for the team missing the playoffs was the inability to finish games, and Brown can help them do that.
We’ll see if he considers joining the Mavericks when free agency begins on Friday at 6 PM ET.
