Oral Roberts star and former college basketball scoring champ Max Abmas has entered the transfer portal, so which programs should snatch him up?

The college basketball transfer portal just got another star, though not from a program that typically brings such things to the table. But Oral Roberts star Max Abmas is no normal player and now he’ll head from the Golden Eagles to likely a power conference team in need of a dominant point guard.

Jeff Borzello of ESPN was first to report that Max Abmas will be entering the transfer portal.

The 6-foot Dallas native spent four seasons at Oral Roberts and will now come into the portal as a graduate transfer. He joins the likes of Caleb Love, Hunter Dickinson, Kel’el Ware, MJ Rice and many others. But Abmas has the best resumé of the bunch, averaging at least 21.9 points per game in each of the past three seasons, including leading the country in scoring in the 2020-21 campaign and leading the Golden Eagles to the Sweet 16.

So where could Max Abmas end up in the transfer portal? These five transfer destinations would make a ton of sense.

Wichita State could land Max Abmas in a coup to follow HC Paul Mills

Wichita State, despite their success over the past decade-plus as a program, is undoubtedly an outlier among the potential destinations for Abmas, but they might also be the most logical.

One of the reasons that Abmas stayed at Oral Roberts for four years in college basketball despite his proven scoring prowess that was coveted by major programs was because he wanted to stick with head coach Paul Mills. But now Mills has left the Golden Eagles, which is a big reason why Abmas is now also on the move.

And where did Mills end up? You guessed it: Wichita State. The Shockers have struggled quite a bit in recent years but bringing in Abmas to jumpstart the program again under a new head coach familiar with the guard would make a ton of sense.
