Maya Jama just made the strongest case for this unexpected party season accessory

The British Fashion Awards are back, and – no surprises here – Maya Jama showed UP. 

The presenter, who was recently confirmed as the next host of Love Island, attended the awards wearing a Sabina Bilenko Couture gown, a triple-tiered collar necklace, and a dramatic, wide-brim black hat, which we’re pretty sure is a must-have as we approach party season.

Maya wore the hat on a sharp tilt, evoking the illustrious ‘60s glamour last truly embodied by The Parent Trap’s Meredith Blake (#JusticeForMeredith). Of course, the first reference that came to mind was actually Beyoncé in her music video for ‘Formation’ in which the pop star wore a sweeping black hat covering the top half of her face for instant impact.

The all-black look is a departure from Maya’s usual penchant for bold, colourful ensembles. In fact, in an interview with Pop Sugar in 2021, Maya said she “would never wear black at all” in her outfits because she likes “to stand out.” I mean, she certainly stands out in this outfit. However, she added, “I’ve started to wear a few little black dresses […] small LBDs with trainers is kind of my vibe.” We’re here for this style evolution. 

We’re also loving the trade-mark Maya-glow, which is out in full force tonight. Fancy getting the look? Well, in her latest interview with GLAMOUR, Maya confessed that her go-to beauty products are “My MAC concealer, then the Fenty Beauty Gloss bomb […] I need to moisture, and my Charlotte Tilbury Eyebrow pencil, because these freshly shaven eyebrows without pencil are just s***.”

Is the hat well-and-truly back? We think so. One thing we know for sure is that Maya is the moment.
