Mayweather announces five-fight world tour despite Chalmers flop

Floyd Mayweather will continue his lucrative post-retirement career with five more fights in five different countries. TBE is set for an active 2023, with bouts booked in for South Korea, Germany, Japan, Australia and the United States over the next nine months.

Since retiring from professional boxing in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record, Mayweather has continued competing in money-spinning exhibition contests against YouTubers, reality television stars and everything in between.

For the most part, the fights, although not well-received by hardcore fans, have drawn in high attendances and have generated a lot of money on gate receipts. However, his most recent encounter with ex-Geordie Shore cast member Aaron Chalmers at the O2 Arena, London failed to capture the attention of the British public.

So much so in fact, that the promoters were forced to flog tickets for as low as £5 in order to get bums on seats. But despite their best efforts the arena remained virtually empty with the entire top tier having to be closed due to low ticket sales.

He added: “I don’t point fingers. We work together as a team. When you buy tickets over here, you don’t really want to spend money. In America, we don’t mind spending money.”

Yet Mayweather hasn’t been dissuaded by the recent shortcomings and is planning on fighting five more times this year. Taking to his social media channels to announce his world tour, Mayweather wrote: “This is what my 2023 looks like so far… 5 exhibitions in 5 countries in 9 months and if any of these exhibitions don’t happen, I still get paid. I’m the most active hustler in boxing, my money is guaranteed.”

No opponents nor venues have been officially announced at the time of writing, although Mayweather’s clash in Japan is set to take place in Tokyo while the American showdown will be held in Miami.
