Simon Jordan was glad to see Floyd Mayweather give Deji Olatunji a ‘touch of reality’ when the pair squared off in the ring last weekend. Mayweather stopped the British YouTube star in the sixth round of their exhibition clash at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
TBE clowned Deji throughout, dancing around the ring and landing at will while the overmatched youngster tried his hardest to stay in the fight. For the majority of the contest, Mayweather threw arm shots and didn’t dig them in. But as the sixth round commenced, he began sitting down on his shots more, causing his novice adversary real problems.
As Mayweather let his hands go, Deji sunk into the ropes prompting veteran referee Kenny Bayless to wave off the fight. talkSPORT pundit Adam Catterall felt that Mayweather should have done more to protect his opponent given the nature of the bout.
However, Jordan was all too happy to see a YouTuber taught a lesson inside the squared circle. “I’m surprised that Adam is uncomfortable with these YouTubers, that are leveraging the sport, getting a touch of reality of what the sport really involves. Because they’re a lot younger than Floyd Mayweather,” Jordan said on talkSPORT radio.
Since retiring from professional boxing in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record, Mayweather has continued raking in big paydays through exhibition bouts. In the last four years, alongside Deji, TBE has fought kickboxing ace Tenshin Nasukawa, YouTuber Logan Paul, former sparring partner Don Moore, and MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura.
He is now expected to make his UK debut in February against a currently undisclosed opponent. Ricky Hatton recently expressed interest in a rematch against his old foe after returning to the ring to box Mexican great Marco Antonio Barrera.
