Kylian Mbappe has rubbished suggestions he’s trying to oust the likes of Neymar and Mauricio Pochettino from Paris Saint-Germain.
The French forward surprisingly committed his future to PSG recently, signing the mother of all contract extensions.
The details of the agreement haven’t been made public, however, it’s understood Mbappe’s new deal includes a weekly wage of around £1million, a signing on bonus of £127m, as well as a larger percentage of his image rights.
It’s also been suggested that he will have a say in strategic matters to do with the direction of the club, including the hiring and firing and staff members and potential transfer targets. Mbappe denies this.
It was widely reported that the 22-year-old wants to see 14 people leave the French side this summer, including teammate Neymar, who joined the Ligue 1 champions for a world-record £198m fee, and manager Pochettino.
However, Mbappe dismissed these reports emphatically, tweeting in response to an article from Sportbible, which has since been deleted: “FAKE.”
Mbappe deciding to turn down a free transfer to Real Madrid and stay at PSG shocked the footballing world.
PSG’s offer just proved too good for him to refuse and the nature of the agreement outraged talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan.
“His new contract is a preposterous scandal. The deal is an obscenity. The level of finance is obscene,” Jordan said.
“[LaLiga president] Javier Tebas has come out all guns blazing, but I think there’s a great big smattering of hypocrisy with this.
“While I admire the stance of trying to get some control over player wages in LaLiga, Real Madrid started this race with player salaries with the Galacticos. All of the transfer fees have started, middled and ended in Spain, from Spain or to Spain.
“There is an element of hypocrisy about it, but there is something that leads to unedifying levels of finance.
“If this is to be believed, I think that the deal is an obscenity. The level of finance in this is obscene and why I don’t agree with Tebas, the bottom line is that PSG and their motivations are not the right ones for football.
“It’s unbelievable that they seem to get around Financial Fair Play the way that they seem to be and it appals me that they’re able to run amok with football because this is not about organic growth in football, this is about manufactured destruction of football through finances and advancing regimes.
“Going to Mbappe, you can’t blame the kid for taking this money. If people are stupid enough to give him a £100m signing bonus, £1m-a-week and God knows what else, that’s offensive in itself.
“Then if you start to move into this ridiculous territory where a player – a PLAYER – is going to tell you or have an input into who he plays for, who is manager works for and who they sign.
“It’s absurd, it’s obscene, it’s preposterous and it could only happen at a club like PSG.”
Jordan added: “This is why people sit there and they get up in arms about the European Super League – these kinds of despicable, obscene financial deals are killing football and they’ve caused the problems that we’re having.
“In this ridiculous scenario, if it’s to be believed, you’re also giving them an element of control over the direction of travel of a football club and it’s gone too far now.
“I use the expression ‘lunatics running the asylum’; he’s a player – a PLAYER! That’s the end of the discussion.
“If anybody believes the reward for being an elite footballer is a £100m sign-on bonus and £1m-a-week, well careful when that hyperinflation lands at your football club, your owner doesn’t want to fund that, and subsequently your football club either finds themselves in financial jeopardy or they cannot compete – and it’s because of clubs like PSG, Man City and what might happen at Newcastle.
“Fans of those clubs might turn around to me and say, ‘you’re just a bitter failed ex-football club owner’ – I couldn’t care less! I care about the game, the equality and the organic growth.
“Football salaries didn’t get to this level through its own legitimate growth, it got there because first of all a Russian oligarch walked through the door, then a Middle East consortium walked through the door, and then you’ve got this.
“Anybody in their right mind will look at this and say it’s an obscenity! This will kill football. This will kill the pyramid in this country.
“People think it’s a game and fans will shout for more money to be paid for players, spend more on transfer fees and wages, but what it’s doing is systematically ruining football.
“And the PSGs of the world are at the front of the queue for the ruination of football.”
