On August 13, 2022, The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) launched a memory park for all the pet lovers in the city. This park is constructed near the dog sterilization centre in Dwarka’s Sector 29. At this park, citizens can plant a sapling in the memory of their deceased pet. The memory park was inaugurated by the MCD’s special officer, Ashwin Kumar.
While speaking to The Indian Express, Municipal Commissioner, Gyanesh Bharti stated that they are now planning on creating an eco-friendly CNG-based crematorium for pets. This crematorium is being planned near the veterinary service department.
The crematorium will be built on a public-private partnership model. The project is been planned in collaboration with the Green Revolution Foundation. The commissioner further said, “Two furnaces of 200 kg biomass are being installed in this crematorium which will be used for the last rites of animals like dogs, cats, etc”.
Another senior official at the MCD mentioned that the department is trying to provide the best facilities for citizens in the city. The inauguration of a memory park, and planning to create a crematorium for pets along with many other such facilities is a significant step in this direction.
