McLaren teases final petrol-only supercar

McLaren is gearing up to reveal a new supercar hero, and you’d best believe it’ll be more powerful than the 720S.

The brand has teased the 750S, believed to be its last supercar to feature a petrol engine unencumbered by hybrid add-ons, ahead of its imminent reveal.

The teaser shows a set of tail lights very similar to those on the 720S, and reports from Europe claim it’ll blend elements from the current 720S and its bigger, more track-focused 765LT brother.

Speaking with Automotive News in February, a McLaren executive said it won’t be an “all-new, ground-up” vehicle.

Knowing McLaren naming conventions, you can expect it to pack 750PS (740hp, 552kW) from its turbocharged petrol V8 engine.

What else will change isn’t clear, although there is new infotainment technology that could be lifted from the smaller Artura to freshen the 720S up.

When it lands, the 750S will compete with a shrinking pool of non-hybrid supercars.

Both the Ferrari 296 GTB and SF90 are hybrids, and the Lamborghini Aventador has been replaced by the hybrid Revuelto.
