Remember the McMurtry Spéirling? The pint-sized EV rocketship popped up at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed and obliterated the Hill Climb lap record with a time of 39.08 seconds. Well, now the British company behind the EV supercar has announced plans to put the diminutive supercar into production — a very limited production of 100 units. It’s expected the customer-spec car, dubbed the Speirling Pure, will debut in prototype form at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

How small is the Spiéling Pure?

The McMurtry Spéirling Pure will follow the design language of the original prototype. In other words, this will be a tiny car measuring just 135.8 inches (3,449 mm) long, about 18 inches shorter than a Mazda MX-5. It is also 62.2 inches (1,588 mm) wide and 40.2 inches (1,021 mm) off the ground. However, the car should still accommodate drivers up to 6-foot-7 and 330 lbs (150 kg), thanks to an adjustable steering wheel and pedals.

How fast is it?

Packed within the Pure’s small frame is an EV powertrain that will generate a peak output of 999 hp, more than enough for time-warping acceleration in a car that only weighs 2,200 lbs (1,000 kg).

Like the original prototype, the McMurtry Spéirling Pure is a track-only weapon. It will be eligible for the GT1 Sports Club, allowing it to participate worldwide at SRO GT World Challenge race weekends. The carmaker reckons a 190 mph (306 km/h) top speed for the Pure and says the 60 kWh battery should last the equivalent of 10 intense laps around Silverstone’s National Circuit.

The Spéirling Pure also gets the McMurtry party trick — the unique fan system that allows the EV to generate loads of on-demand downforce, over 4,000 lbs from 0 rpm. That should help glue the car to the ground as it launches off the line and slaloms around corners, hitting peak lateral forces of 3G. The real question is: Are your neck muscles are up to it?

Or, maybe the better question is:

How much does the Spéirling Pure cost?

As you might have guessed, the Spéirling Pure will not come cheap. The lucky 100 fans/customers will have to shell out £820,000  — roughly $1,376,400 Canadian dollars — plus taxes for one of these beauties. Preorders are now open, and the first customer deliveries are expected sometime in 2025.
