Two weeks after Chanel announced that Indian-origin Leena Nair will take over as the CEO of the French luxury fashion house, the London-based adult content creator platform OnlyFans named Mumbai-born Amrapali Gan as their new CEO, replacing founder Tim Stokely. Founded in 2016, the platform– which according to a Fortune report has more than 7 million fans paying monthly –allows celebrities and adult film stars to seek payment from fans for access to videos and photos.
Interestingly, Gan is the third Indian to take up the top position in a global company in the last two months. In November, Twitter announced that Indian-origin executive Parag Agrawal will be taking over as the CEO from founder Jack Dorsey.
Here are some facts about the Mumbai-born Gan:
The Mumbai connect
The newly-appointed CEO was born in Mumbai and is said to have pursued her education at California State University in Los Angeles; she currently resides in the US. Over the last 14 years, she has worked at several companies including Red Bull Media House, PepsiCo, Quest Nutrition and Cannabis Café.
India at the helm
Gan is one of several Indians who hold the top position at different international companies. Besides Nair and Agrawal, Google’s Sundar Pichai, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, IBM’s Arvind Krishna and Adobe’s Shantanu Narayen are among the other Indian-origin faces in recent years at the global companies. In the past, Indra Nooyi famously helmed PepsiCo before retiring in 2018.
Reaching the top
While Gan’s appointment as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) may seem sudden, the marketing professional has been with OnlyFans for two years now. Since she joined, Ganheld the position of the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at the company, before her appointment to the top position now. Stokely will be associated with the company at the advisory level during the transition period.
Plans for OnlyFans as CEO
Gan, who has an OnlyFans account herself and is also known as Ami Gan, says she aims to help content creators on the platform get better control and monetise their content. At the same time, she also wants to make it the safest social media platform today.
