‘He lasted one more year. For one year, he lost his spouse. Where’s the self-sacrifice?’

When Megyn Kelly heard Tom Brady’s retirement news this week, she had one thought: was it worth it?

The conservative commentator weighed in on Brady’s second retirement announcement Wednesday morning, in which the seven-time Super Bowl winner told fans he “wouldn’t change a thing” about his decision to come back for one final season.

That choice ended in disappointment both personally and professionally. Brady’s return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at age 45 cost him his marriage to supermodel Gisele Bundchen.
Things didn’t go well on the field, either. This year’s edition of his Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished with the worst record (8-9) of any team Brady had started as the quarterback for in his NFL career. It all came to a grinding halt with a 31-14 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in an NFC wildcard game last month.

Kelly was irked by Brady’s comment about not changing “a thing” about coming back.

“You (Tom Brady) wouldn’t change the part at the end where you lost your wife of 10-plus years because you wouldn’t retire? A thing that you then decided to do 365 days later.”

Joined by Emily Jashinsky and Eliana Johnson, Kelly said that Brady seems like a “sweet guy” and doesn’t appear to be “evil-hearted,” but questioned how the football legend could allow his marriage to disintegrate so he could play one more year.
That “seems like something one should regret,” she continued calling the split “a tragedy.”
“He lasted one more year. For one year, he lost his spouse. Where’s the self-sacrifice? Where’s the mature decision to say, ‘I will table my one year to sacrifice, for you, my spouse; to sacrifice for the sake of my marriage and for the sake of my children to have their family remain together?’”
Shortly after the 45-year-old quarterback announced his retirement, Bundchen paid tribute to her ex.

“Wishing you only wonderful things in this new chapter of your life,” she commented on his announcement post.
Kelly wondered aloud what Bundchen must have been thinking hearing the news that Brady was stepping away for good.
“‘OK, so you (Tom Brady) could have saved the marriage a year ago when I begged you to do this and you refused,’” Kelly said. “‘You decided for 300-plus days, it would be worth it to lose me, cause all this heartache to our children, blow up our beautiful life. For what? One season?’”
If that is what it was, Brady letting his marriage crumble over football, it was the ultimate “middle-finger,” Kelly said.
“That isn’t a good marriage. That is somebody who’s not actually connected and in love and intimately involved in the way you would expect and want your spouse to be.”

Following their divorce in October, Bundchen has seemingly moved on with rumours swirling that she is dating jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente.
“Gisele adores and trusts (Joaquim) and has been spending a lot of time with him, but I don’t think it’s a traditional dating scenario,” a source told PEOPLE last month. “They have a deep personal relationship, and he is a teacher to her and the kids. Whether or not it will ever become more than that rests on the table.”
Meanwhile, Brady joked that his retirement will allow him to see his new movie, 80 For Brady, in the theatre this weekend.
“Now that I’m retired, I have time to go see 80 For Brady four separate times today,” he tweeted Friday morning.
