Mel B confronts sacked MP Conor Burns about comment he made ‘in lift’

Mel B, 47, made a thinly veiled attack at the former Trade Policy Minister, Conor Burns, 50, after he shared a string of tweets following his removal from the government due to a “complaint of serious misconduct”.

Writing on Friday, after news broke that he had been sacked, Mr Burns said: “[Chief Whip Wendy Morton] informed me that a complaint had been received about me and she had passed it to Conservative Campaign Headquarters to investigate.

“I was not given any information about the complaint nor was I asked to provide any information.

“On the basis of this complaint Ms Morton told me that the Whip was being withdrawn and that I was standing down as Trade Minister.

“I will fully cooperate with the Party’s enquiry and look forward to clearing my name. I hope the party will be as quick to conduct their enquiry as they were to rush to judgement.”

It is understood that the complaint spans from allegations of “inappropriate behaviour” at the Conservative Party conference earlier this week.

In a statement, Downing Street said Prime Minister Liz Truss “took direct action on being informed of this allegation”.

Mel B, who was at the conference, has since responded to Mr Burns’ tweet and confronted him about an alleged comment he made “in a lift”.

She fumed on Friday evening: “Really?? Your shocked about this complaint??? Let me remind you what you said me in lift…..” (sic)

She also told the event that domestic abuse is “everywhere” in society.

In her speech, she opened up about the effects of domestic abuse after she claimed she was in an abusive relationship which spanned 10 years.

She said: “I couldn’t pick up the phone to call my mum, my friends, I didn’t have access to anything.

“And you think, well, Spice Girls are all about girl power, but let me tell you, when these abusers get their hooks into you, there is no way out, or so you think.”

Mel B became a patron for Women’s Aid in 2018 and was appointed an MBE earlier this year for her work with vulnerable women.

She received the honour from Prince William in May and dedicated it to “all women” who have suffered at the hands of domestic violence.
