ATLANTA — Mercedes-Benz’s top-of-the-line SUV receives a light freshening that updates its design, introduces new software features and expands options for customers.
The luxury automaker unveiled its 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS at a media event on Monday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons NFL franchise.
Built in Vance, Ala., the large SUV should arrive in U.S. stores in the third quarter of this year. Pricing was not disclosed.
The Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 4MATIC is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged engine delivering 375 hp and capable of a 0 to 60 mph time of 5.8 seconds.
Equipped with the 4.0-liter V-8 biturbo engine producing 510 hp, the more powerful GLS 580 4MATIC is capable of 0 to 60 mph acceleration in 4.7 seconds. Both versions receive up to 21 additional horsepower from an electric EQ Boost feature enabled by a starter-alternator.
The three-row SUV crowns the Mercedes-Benz lineup.
Jeff Aiosa, owner of Mercedes-Benz of New London in Connecticut, said limited supply is keeping GLS demand strong four years into its product cycle. Aiosa is sold out of the GLS.
“I’m probably close to a month out before I see new inventory,” he said.
U.S. deliveries last year dropped 15 percent to 20,853 vehicles, but GLS sales have not been significantly cannibalized by the battery-powered EQS SUV variant.
“Unless you’re leasing the EQS SUV, there isn’t price parity between the two models,” Aiosa said.
