Summer is here and so is the season of salads. Salads are extremely beneficial for the health. Made with a range of fruits and vegetables, they help in cutting down calorie consumption and provide the body with necessary fibres. They also help in getting the body access to good fats and providing water. Papaya, one of the fruits which are loved, is used in several curries and desserts in its ripe form. However, like the ripe form, raw papaya can also be used in multiple ways – even as a salad.

Nutritionist Anjali Mukerjee who keeps sharing health-related tips and tricks on her Instagram profile on a daily basis, shared a super easy recipe of raw papaya salad and spoke about the health benefits of the dish as well. Take a look:

Ingredients:

3 cups raw papaya, cut into julienne

1/4 cup roasted peanuts (moongphali), coarsely crushed

Few drops of soya sauce (optional)

Coriander (Dhania) leaves, small bunch, freshly chopped

1/2 tsp red chilli powder

1 green chilli, sliced, seeds removed, finely chopped

Ingredients for the dressing:

2 lemons, juiced

2 tablespoons honey (or to taste)

Salt, to taste

Method:

Combine all the ingredients for dressing in a small bowl and keep aside. Meanwhile, take the raw papayas, Peel the green skin off and then slice it in half. Use a spoon to scrape out the seeds. Using a julienne cutter to scrape the raw papaya into noodle-like julienne. Place it in a large bowl. Stir the other ingredients and drizzle the dressing over the mixture and toss the salad. Adjust the sweetness, lemon and chillies together and serve immediately.

Raw papaya salad comes with multiple health benefits. It helps in improving digestion and helping in detoxification of the body. It also helps in rejuvenating the cells. Raw papaya is loaded with fibres, which help in preventing constipation. Being anti-inflammatory in nature, it also helps in combating inflammation.
