Mermaidcore ruled the Fashion Awards from shimmer sequins to wet-look hair

One trend we couldn’t stop spotting at Monday night’s Fashion Awards was the mermaidcore aesthetic that dominated the red carpet. Countless celebs made waves with small nods to our siren sisters.

Shimmering scale-like sequins were seen on everyone from Naomi Campbell, who wore a floor-length silver gown, complete with a cape. Simone Ashley wore head-to-toe lilac sequins from 16Arlington. Munroe Bergdorf wore a shimmering blue dress with a cascading train, and Fran Summer’s sea-blue sequin dress looked like she picked it up straight from Ariel’s wardrobe.

Others, like Lily James, Poppy Delevingne, Adut Akech and Roxy Horner wore fishtail silhouettes. Wet-look hair made multiple appearances – see Florence Pugh, Alexa Chung and Rochelle Humes. And mermaid waves were worn by everyone from Irina Shayk to Neelam Gill. Speaking of gills, Rita Ora rocked a prosthetic pair around her eyes (we love the commitment) and elsewhere, sparkling eyelids headlined. At the same time, Stella Maxwell even nodded to the mermaid vibe with sea-foam shimmering accents in her inner eye corner.

Here are all our favourite mermaidcore looks from the Fashion Awards…
