According to a database of the Federal Service for Financial Monitoring (Rosfinmonitoring), Russia in late March banned Facebook and Instagram for “carrying out extremist activities” after authorities accused Meta of tolerating “Russophobia” during Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine.
