Floodwaters are starting to recede in the Hudson Valley, but officials are still scrambling to address the damage done by torrential rain on Sunday that poured over the region and crippled its rail lines.
The Metro-North Railroad restored service on Tuesday morning to two stations on its Hudson Line, Cortlandt and Peekskill, for the first time since Sunday afternoon.
But Metro-North service remains suspended on the Hudson Line north of Peekskill, and on the Harlem line north of Southeast, because tracks there that were made impassable by debris and floodwater are still being repaired. Limited bus service is running along the affected portion of the Hudson Line.
Amtrak service between New York City and Albany, which uses the Hudson Line tracks, also remains suspended while Metro-North continues to work on the line, whose tracks mainly run along the east bank of the river.
Crews have been at work since Sunday night, Metro-North said in a statement. Riders can monitor the websites for Metro-North and Amtrak for updates.
