According to a statement released on Wednesday, the transit cop is charged with one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
The charges were approved by an experienced Crown counsel with no prior or current connection to the officer, the statement read.
In January, 2021, the Independent Investigations Office (that investigates when a police officer is involved in an incident where someone is hurt or killed) reported it was looking into a motor vehicle incident that occurred in Surrey on Nov. 4, 2020.
According to the report, an unmarked police vehicle responding to an unrelated incident was involved in a collision with a white Volkswagen Jetta at the intersection of 128 Street and 93 Avenue and the sole occupants of both vehicles were taken to hospital.

In September 2021, the IIO updated the file, stating it had reported the matter to the B.C. Prosecution Service for consideration of charges.
At that point, the IIO revealed the driver of the unmarked police vehicle was a member of the Metro Vancouver Transit Police.
The IIO stated at that time “reasonable ground exist to believe that an officer may have committed offences in relation to the operation of a police vehicle.”
