Miami Spice 2023: Where To Eat From August 1 To September 30

0

The Miami summer months are about to give way to one of the city’s most exciting food experiences. From August 1 through September 30, Miami Spice, the two-month-long restaurant promotion organized by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (GMCVB), returns for its 22nd year with over 150 restaurants in participation.

This year, participating restaurants will continue to offer prix fixe, three-course Miami Spice menus for brunch, lunch and dinner with a focus on flexibility and options. Three-course lunch and brunch menus are priced at $30/$35 for brunch and lunch, and $45/$60 for dinner.

This year also marks the debut of the Signature Dining Experiences, where select restaurants opt to go beyond the traditional pre-fixe, three-course menus with special offerings that can range from multi-course specials to a home-catering option. (For instance, Orno by James Beard-nominated chef Niven Patel, will offer a five-course chef counter experience; while Santorini by Georgios will offer “The Greek Experience,” a special menu of the restaurant’s most notable entrees and appetizers. These special offerings, if applicable, are listed on each participating restaurant’s page on the Miami Spice website.)

Some of the new restaurants participating this year include Basque restaurant Zeru in Brickell; MaryGold’s Florida Brasserie by James Beard-nominated chef Brad Kilgore in Wynwood; Mediterranean-inspired Aba in Bal Harbour; Michelin-recommended Beauty and the Butcher by chef Jeremy Ford in Coral Gables; Italian restaurant Sofia at the Design District; and neighborhood seafood bistro Joliet in Miami Beach, to name a few.

“We decided to participate in Miami Spice this year because being new to the Miami community, we wanted to offer a glimpse into what locals can expect at Zeru— warm service and delicious Spanish Mediterranean cuisine,” shares Gabriela Guitrón Ramírez, executive chef at Zeru Miami, the first international outpost of Mexico City-based Grupo Zeru. “Zeru means home for us, and we like to express that through our hospitality. Our Miami Spice menu captures the very essence of the restaurant itself, and guests will have the opportunity to try some of our signature dishes that can be found on our regular menu. In addition, we’ve incorporated some of our personal favorites.”

James Beard-nominated chef Brad Kilgore will be emphasizing on choices at his MaryGold’s Florida Brasserie at the Arlo Hotel Wynwood, to ensure there is something for everyone. “We always prioritize local ingredients like mahi mahi and draw inspiration from Florida, like the vaca frita, to keep us motivated,” he shares. “By using ripe summer tomatoes to create a vibrant ragout for the unbelievably tender ricotta pillows, we strike a perfect balance in the Miami Spice August entrée selection. And let’s not forget about chef Leiti [Gonzalez]’s amazing pastries— the fondant with candied popcorn ice cream and her signature multi-textured sorbets offer the ideal harmony.”

At Sofia, the Italian restaurant at the Design District, instantly recognizable by its flamingo pink aesthetics, guests can experience the full spectrum of Miami Spice (in very generously portioned plates) for brunch, lunch and dinner.

“As a fairly new member of the culinary community we felt it was very important to participate in a food and beverage citywide initiative that catered to mainly locals,” shares Patrick Ochs, corporate executive chef at INK Entertainment USA, the group behind Sofia. “Our goal is to bring in a whole new audience that haven’t experienced Sofia and to offer something special for our regulars as a thank you. From artfully plated food, homemade pasta, to beautiful dining options both indoor and outdoor, Sofia has something specially curated for everyone.”

Aba at Bal Harbour Shops, led by Top Chef alum CJ Jacobson, will likewise have Miami Spice menus for brunch, lunch and dinner. “It’s fun for us to get creative and showcase our variety of mezze options,” shares Jacobson. “It allows the diner to enjoy a full scope of our food and try things they may not otherwise consider.”

“It’s important to get out and support local restaurants during Miami’s slow season and Miami Spice has always been a great way to do that,” shares Beauty and the Butcher’s Jeremy Ford. “I love how the community comes together and embraces each other. We look forward to serving our regulars and welcome newcomers. Come check it out!”
