Micah Richards slammed Graham Potter’s tactics after Chelsea lost to Aston Villa and urged the Blues boss to recall January signing Benoit Badiashile.
Chelsea suffered another setback on Saturday as they were beaten 2-0 at home to Unai Emery’s Villa.
Ollie Watkins lobbed Aston Villa ahead on 18 minutes and Chelsea wasted a number of chances before John McGinn doubled the visitors’ lead after half-time.
Chelsea have largely underwhelmed since Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel in the Stamford Bridge hot-seat and the defeat to Villa leaves them 11th in the Premier League, 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.
Former Manchester City star Micah Richards was baffled by Potter’s tactics against Aston Villa and said the former Brighton boss needs to ‘do more’ to turn things around at Chelsea.
The ex-England defender also urged Potter to recall former Monaco star Badiashile after he was left out against Villa.
‘I think tactically Graham Potter has to do more, if I’m being totally honest,’ Richards said on BBC’s Match of the Day.
‘We saw Reece James playing in a back-three, Ruben Loftus-Cheek was playing at right wing-back. Chelsea had so many opportunities down the right-hand side and Reece James should have been there.
‘Benoit Badiashile was on the bench and they’ve got Romelu Lukaku at Inter Milan. The whole situation needs sorting ASAP.’
Premier League legend Alan Shearer also delivered his verdict on Potter’s Chelsea, admitting he ‘struggles to see what they’re trying to do’.
While Chelsea have little to play for in the Premier League, they are still in the Champions League and face holders Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
‘I’ve got sympathy for Graham Potter because it must be very difficult with all of those players, to keep them happy and organise his sessions,’ Shearer said.
‘Some of the players are in the Premier League squad but not the Champions League squad. It’s a really tough job to keep everyone happy.
‘But I struggle to see what they’re trying doing at times.’
