The 24-year-old smashed the fastest Hundred century but it proved in vain as Welsh Fire kept alive their hopes of making Saturday’s eliminator with an eight-wicket win.
Brook crashed a scintillating 105 off 42 balls but found little support as Superchargers posted 158 for seven.
One of the stars of this summer’s Ashes series capped a stunning evening’s work with an astonishing catch on the boundary and Vaughan is confident, despite last week’s snub, that he will eventually make the cut and travel to India as part of Jos Buttler’s squad which is looking to defend the trophy they won four years ago.
‘Harry Brook is different class,’ wrote former England skipper Vaughan in response to Brook’s awesome display of hitting. ‘My guess is he will end up at the World Cup.’
Brook’s omission, in part, owes to a Ben Stokes U-turn which saw the Test captain come out of ODI retirement, just 15 months after he announced he would no longer play 50 over cricket for his country.
‘Obviously it’s disappointing but I can’t do anything about it now,’ said Brook last week. ‘You’ve just got to move on. I’m trying not to think about it anymore.
‘I’ve not had much conversation with Matthew [Mott] or Jos [Buttler]. They said with Stokesy coming back I was probably going to miss out this time. He is one of the best players to ever play cricket, so I can’t really complain, can I?
‘I feel like I’m playing well at the minute and feel I could potentially add value to the team. [But] there’s always something more you could do.
‘I haven’t had much opportunity to play one-day cricket, whether that be for Yorkshire or England and although I’ve played a lot of T20 cricket, I don’t know if I’ve done as well as I have in the past in the last six months, so that might have had an effect.’
